Dr. Charles Norland has been a landscape and nature photographer since the early 1960’s. In 1975, Dr. Norland and Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis, MO., created a permanent display of photographic art throughout the medical center. There are now over 250 photographic prints on display in the facility and physician offices.

Everyone is welcome to use this website to view over 500 images which are divided into nine different galleries. Interior designers and their clients can review the images from separate locations, while conversing over the phone and can begin the selection process.

The artwork can be produced in a wide spectrum of sizes and printed on a various types of paper or canvas, which maximizes overall design options. Dr. Norland’s goal is to utilize the latest digital printing technology to create photographic prints that appear like paintings.


Obituary

Dr. Charles Carssow Norland passed on July 15, 2024 at the age of 90. Below is his obituary from the St. Louis Post Dispatch:

Charles Carssow Norland

1933-2024

Age 90, of Edina, MN, and long-time resident of Town and Country, passed away peacefully July 16, 2024. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 39 years, Ingrid (nee Bakkeli), parents Hans Bonde and Anna Geraldine (nee Carssow), sister, Ingerid, and one brother, Richard.

Dr. “Chuck” served as chief gastroenterologist at St Luke’s Hospital and Missouri Baptist Medical Center, as a teaching attending at Barnes Hospital/Barnes-Jewish Hospital, as well as working with trainees at Barnes-Jewish, St Louis City Hospital and the John Cochran VA Hospital. In addition, he was a professor emeritus of clinical medicine at Washington University and received the Washington University Medical Center Alumni Association’s Alumni Achievement Award in 2014. He served as president of the St. Louis Medical Clinic and held a number of elected positions with the St. Louis Metropolitan Medical Society. He also spearheaded an important community-wide smoking cessation project.

He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. In his “second career” Charles became an accomplished photographer whose works have been on display at Missouri Baptist and other locations in the St. Louis area. In addition to photography, his lifelong passions were tennis, playing the drums, the St. Louis Cardinals, and all things Norway. A proud Eagle Scout, he enjoyed fishing and outdoor adventures.

Survived by brother, James; son, Hans; daughters, Kate Nelson and Ann (Alan) Koehler; grandchildren, Hans Nelson, Grete Nelson, Jennifer Norland, Heather Norland, Ingrid Koehler and Carsten Koehler.
